puttin up reindeer and singin songs of joy and peace

on christmas morning, mom and jake and i went to help out at the soup kitchen. i had helped once when i was in high school, but never on christmas. there were a lot of volunteers, but i guess i thought there would be even more. i'm really bad with numbers but i would say there were maybe 300 that came to be served. i passed out desserts.

jake gave me a sign language magnetic poetry set. its pretty nifty. he said, i know you don't have a refrigerator but i figure this will encourage you to get one soon. meaning, it will encourage me to hurry up and get my own place. HA - only if i get a raise

unfortunately many of gifts were not surprises like the magnetic poetry set. i dig surprises. i don't make a christmas list but mom still makes me pick out most of what i'm getting from her.
we had opened all of our gifts and mom says, okay, that's it! but, i thought that i had something else coming. i let a few minutes go by and thought about it some more. i did have something else. i said, mom, are you sure that's everything??? HA. you know that's bad when you have to remind your mom that she is forgetting to give you one of your presents. but it was a very specific item that i had chosen and a fairly large item too. it was my easel. so mom was like, oh yeah its still in my room.

you're probably thinking - oh big deal, an easel. but, its great! and i've never had a real one before so i was excited.

in conclusion, it was the first year that the whole family wasn't together for christmas. there also wasn't that much under the tree as in previous years. mom made herself cut back a lot. but i think this has been one of the most relaxing and enjoyable christmases ever. a gift much needed.

a bad haircut

i finally have a night when i don't have to go anywhere or entertain or whatever. so i went to have my haircut. i always go to this place at the mall. i figured it wouldn't be too bad. and it wasn't terrible, although i did almost manage to get hit on haywood road. very lucky i didn't.

i'm so tired - having problems focusing - brainwise and visionwise.

i think this girl really messed my hair up.

i have to go feed a cat in the morning - do all cats have fangs??

i really like this new show on bravo - project runway. oh no, another reality show sucking me in. i really like it though. designing clothes would be fun. but designing kitchens is fun too

gingerbread

okay, so this weekend has been crazy, but mostly good. i got the dreaded office party out of the way. haha, actually it was quite nice. we had it at the office out in the showroom. a perk about being in the design world is usually you get to work in a cool space. even if your office is a total wreck.
they catered the party through italian market and grill. i've been to italian market and grill once and was not impressed but that food last night was incredible!

i was able to spend some time with my college roommate yesterday. before i went to the party, we stopped by the saturn dealership and the mazda place. it was the first time that i'd ever been shopping for a car - my first experience dealing with car salesman. ughh. but, ya know, the guy at saturn was a brave man. HAHAHA. i did something i probably never should have done.
i test drove a 5 speed.
it wouldn't have been so bad if i had driven one recently, but NO, it had been several years. i know the car salesman was probably having a heart attack in the back seat. jennifer was in the passengers seat not sure what to think. i don't think i was ever able to get it to go into first gear on the first try. HAHAHA. but it was fun.
the manager of the place came out and did his little speech. he basically said, "are you sure you want a 5 speed cuz you looked like you were strugglin out there." anyways, it wasn't THAT bad, and yes i do want a 5 speed. how rude. :0) the car was great. but it was this butt ugly light blue granny color on the outside and had an ugly interior to match. that was really its only problems.
we didn't have time to test drive any cars at mazda. it was getting dark by that point anyway. i'm sure jennifer was sooo disappointed. HA.
last night, jen and i thought it'd be fun to make gingerbread cookies. why is it that i always forget how troublesome gingerbread cookie dough is? its so gooey and mushy! its impossible. of course it didn't help that we ran out of plain flour. HA. the recipe calls for 4 cups of flour, right? we only had about 2. so we used self-rising flour for the rest. and even though the recipe calls for 4 cups, they might as well just say 10 cups cuz that's how much it takes. needless to say, we had some obese gingerbread people. and they tasted a little on the salty side - but not too much.

ya know, food and water really are good things. some days at work i have to make myself stop and eat something...usually its just crackers. but a handful of cheez-its and a glass of water just doesn't cut it. how do people do the fasting thing?

;0) A wink can be SO SEXY!

HA

my favorite snack as of late

i love triscuits and cheese. with a glass of cranberry grape juice. triscuits are a wonderfully painful cracker to eat. when bitten down on, sharp salty edges are produced to scrape the insides of ones mouth. the crunchy paired with the spongy with a splash of soury sweet. delicious.

couch dreams

i just woke from a nap. in my dream i was driving my mom's 4runner. my family was in the car with me. i was having a lot of problems controlling the car because my legs and arms felt numb. mom finally made me stop and switch drivers after i almost had about 5 wrecks. when i was trying to get into the back of the car i was stumbling around all over the place. it was like i had no muscle control. i think it was the way i was sleeping on the couch or it was because i was sleeping on the couch- anyway it was weird.

a thought from strobel - we live in a baskin robbins culture where the most dreaded sentence would be to serve a life with no options.

santa claus doorknobs

my car has decided to start producing a high pitched screeching sound whenever it first starts. time to go test drive - yay!

to knit or not to knit

hello hello

i'm looking at the clock and thinking its late but its really not. 11:15 isn't late, right? haha. why can't i be one of those people who only needs 3 hours of sleep a day like ben. but, then again, how well can one function with that amount of sleep.
maybe i should consider drinking coffee. or throwing my tv out the window. its about to blow up anyway.
a few months ago i started knitting - a lot. so while i'm knitting, i have the tv on. i started getting hooked on these stupid reality shows and stuff like "inside the actors studio". my favorite ones so far have been mike myers and charlize theron. i wish i could meet a guy like mike myers. i think he met his wife in a bar.
i've got to figure out something better to do while i knit. these reality shows are like poison. maybe i could listen to spanish tapes. maybe i should quit knitting - HA.

p.s. thanks to two very cool and creative friends who have inspired me to create a blog of my own. you know who you are - r & r.
